Sports bathing suits and swimming trunks
Maybe you are a competitive swimmer or enjoy swimming to stay fit; the right swimwear will make sure everything runs a lot more smoothly. Suitable swimwear reduces resistance in the water. There are various sports models to select from, with or without trouser legs and in neutral or bolder colours and prints.
FAQ – Frequently asked questions about sports swimsuits and swim trunks
Good sports swimwear is a swimsuit or swim trunks that allow you to focus on what really matters: gliding through the water as quickly and smoothly as possible. You don’t have to worry about whether everything is staying in place since your swimwear fits perfectly and doesn’t hinder you.
Unlike regular swimwear, sports swimwear is made of materials that are sturdier, breathe better, and glide through the water faster. It is also important that your suit is resistant to chlorine because, as an aquatic athlete, you spend more time in the pool than others. As a result, sports swimwear also tends to be a bit more expensive than regular swimwear. But if your regular swimsuit or trunks wear out or become see-through after six months and you constantly have to buy new ones, you’re still better off with a higher-quality piece!
Don’t hang your swimsuit or trunks out to dry immediately after an intense session. Give it a thorough wash first. Chlorine and sea water affect the fine elastane fibres and make the textiles hard and stiff. Not what you need if you want to move freely in the water.
A step-by-step plan:
- Rinse your swimwear with clean, lukewarm tap water after each swim.
- A thorough wash is needed after each session to completely remove the chlorine. And it’s better to wash it by hand in lukewarm water using mild soap. Aggressive soaps affect the fabric and if the water is too hot, your suit can lose its elasticity. If you prefer the washing machine, then wash it in a mesh laundry bag on a delicate cycle at the lowest temperature.
- Don’t wring out your swimwear too hard, as this can take the shape out of everything. A gentle squeeze is a better idea.
- Never let your swimwear dry in the sun or in the dryer. It’s best to lay everything flat to dry on a clothes rack or on a dry bath towel in the bathroom or outside in a shady area.
- Ironing is completely out of the question as your swimwear will 100% stick to the iron!
