A tick is a spider-like arthropod parasite that feeds on the blood of animals and humans. When sucking blood, ticks can transmit viruses, bacteria, parasites and even venom. The best-known and most dangerous bacterium a tick can carry is the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease. That disease can eventually lead to serious health problems.
