Guppyfriend Washing Bag

With the GuppyFriend laundry bag you catch plastic and nylon microfibers that are released while washing clothes. 99 percent of the loose plastic fibers are collected in this way before they can escape to the sea via the sewer and water purification. The GuppyFriend is a special laundry bag that can prevent these microfibers from entering the sea through the washing machine. You wash clothes in it that contain nylon, fleece, polyester or other plastics. The advantage of a laundry bag is that clothing wears less and prevents fibers from peeling away; your clothes will stay beautiful longer.

The product was conceived by the German sustainable outdoor brand Langbrett and will reduce the amount of microplastics in waste water and ultimately in the sea. We have recently realized that our clothing can seriously pollute the environment. Certainly synthetic clothing, because nylon, polyester, acrylic and elastane are made from petroleum. At first you think of fleece clothing. But many cotton shirts and sweaters also contain "plastic fibers".

How does the GuppyFriend laundry bag work? If you put your synthetic clothing in the laundry bag while washing, about 99 percent of the released microfibers remain in it. The laundry bag itself is durable and does not release any plastic fibers. The Guppy Friend is made of polyamide, also a type of plastic, but with the important difference that it remains intact during washing and does not consist of loose fibers.

After washing, you can remove the microfibers from the bag and throw them away with the residual waste. The fluff collects mainly in the corners of the bag and at the stitching bands. On average, this is about 1.9 grams of microfiber per wash.
